Dog Rehabilitation Therapy
Orthopedic and Neurologic Help
Physical therapy has been the standard of care following orthopedic/neurologic injury in human medicine for many years. Veterinary medicine has lagged behind on this front until recently. Physical therapy is used to increase the function and mobility of joints, to reduce pain, and speed recovery following surgery, orthopedic diseases, or degenerative diseases.
We Treat Musculoskeletal and Neurological Needs
Through physical rehabilitation, Zen Dog treats your pet’s musculoskeletal disorders, such as: arthritis, cranial cruciate ligament tears (post-surgically or non-surgical management), hip or elbow dysplasia, muscle strains, post-surgical femoral head ostectomy.
We also leverage physical rehabilitation to treat any neurological disorders, including: IVDD (Intervertebral disk disease), degenerative myelopathy, fibrocartilaginous embolism, wobbler’s syndrome.
Cutting-Edge Personalized Medicine without Leaving Your Home
At Zen Dog, we approach dog rehabilitation in a unique way:
During an initial examination, problems are identified, goals are set, and supplements/herbs may be prescribed.
We devise and send you a treatment plan comprised of at-home exercises targeted to improve your pet’s underlying issue and symptoms.
The exercises are all clearly displayed in videos on our web platform.
We are available to answer any questions or concerns that you may have.
The exercises typically take about 10-20 minutes to complete, performed twice daily, depending on the condition being treated.
This approach allows for consistent treatments without numerous in-person visits. It empowers you as the owner to take part in your pet’s health and recovery. We recommend scheduling at least monthly rechecks to ensure that the exercises are performed properly, and to evaluate the progress made towards the goals that we set at the initial evaluation.
Capable Underlying Platform
We use Physiotec software to facilitate this service. This powerful software allows you to access the treatment plan on any device that has a web browser. It also allows you to track and provide feedback on your pet’s exercises, watch videos to ensure the exercise is being performed correctly, and for us to add new exercises on our end to modify the treatment plan.
In addition to canine rehab we may recommend supplements for arthritis and other orthopedic conditions. This may include a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement, omega-3 fatty acids, or Adequan injections during visits.
